From January 1st the Zea Harbour Project has been taken on board on the new and only Programme of Maritime Archaeology in Denmark at the Institute of History and Civilization, South Danish University (www.archaeology.sdu.dk).
Joining forces with the developing maritime archaeology program was a logical choice. The Zea Harbour Project lacked academic embedding at a Danish University. For the program, the project provides ample underwater fieldwork opportunities for its students.
The formal link also means that the competences of the program’s staff, which presently converge on the prehistory and nautical archaeology of Northern Europe, are extended to include the archaeology of maritime infrastructure in the Classical world. Zea Harbour Project co-director Bjørn Lovén has been appointed Associate Fellow of the University as of January 1st. |
